In November 2025, the 7th and final edition of the Berliner Herbstsalon at the Maxim Gorki Theater, RE:IMAGINE: THE RED HOUSE – INVENTORIES / INTERVENTIONS / INVENTIONS, brought together long-term collaborators and new artistic positions to revisit, reclassify, and reimagine critical artistic practices, struggles, and forms of resistance in relation to the present and the future.
As hinted in the title, the Red House became a point of departure for re-imagining the future: a women workers’ dormitory at Stresemannstraße 30, established by Telefunken. Its history opened up the stories of the first generation of women who migrated from Turkey to Germany as workers in the 1960s. What began with small acts of collecting and building conversations, gradually unfolded into an archive more complex than initially imagined, one that continues to generate new stories, encounters, and forms of exhibition-making.
The lecture will trace this process across several exhibitions in Berlin and Istanbul, focusing on the curatorial and production practices involved in building a continually evolving archive and bringing together artworks that engage with its stories. How do personal archives, published materials, and artistic media come into dialogue, and how are stories transformed as they are collected, mediated, exhibited, and reinterpreted?
Maral Müdok is an artist and cultural worker whose work explores various forms of storytelling through collaborative research and production processes, particularly for exhibitions, films, and performances. Focusing on memory and temporality, Müdok explores the archive—whether personal or institutional—treating it both as a subject of critical inquiry and as artistic material. Her works have been exhibited at MAK Frankfurt and Schwankhalle Bremen. From 2025 to 2026, she worked as the Assistant Curator for the 7th Berliner Herbstsalon at the Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin.
Maral Müdok was invited by the Vallejos-de Bruijne class.
The event will be held in English.
